A.    OBJECTIVE

 

The primary role of the Manager of Internal Brokerage is to manage and direct the day-to-day business operations, pricing, productivity and growth of the Internal Truck Brokerage Division.  The incumbent works with Sales and Operations Teams to establish, maintain and continuously improve our customer satisfaction, customer base, revenue growth, margin improvement, carrier base and relationships. This position is also responsible for managing our inside sales team to meet and surpass our target goals. 

 

 

B.    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

·         Ensure receipt of proper customer requirements allowing for a professional information package to be developed and submitted to carriers for their review and proposal (RFP).

·         Identify capable carriers and negotiate rates and service agreements that offer the highest return to Wheels and their customers through the use of a standardized process and special processes.

·         Decide on which carriers to partner with for the longer term.

·         Develop/maintain a working relationship with carriers so that they excel in meeting customer requirements.  Partner and establish increased business with strong performance.

·         Ensure carrier performance compliance is measured and communicated regularly. Identify and resolve negative trends and ongoing transportation / logistics issues. 

·         Understand the wide array of carriers and continue to add more suppliers into their niche areas of strength / assist in growing them according to common partnership objectives.

·         Keep abreast of carrier industry issues and costs, including benchmarks.  Keep management advised of industry rate trends. 

·         Provide ongoing pricing and routing guidance and direction to the Operations team.

·         Ensure training of carrier costs is fulfilled and that there is a thorough understanding of payment and billing processes involved in each account. 

·         Take the lead role on specific related projects ensuring proper start up and implementation. 

·         Other duties and assignments as required. 

 

 

C.    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

 

Education and Industry Knowledge

·         High School Diploma, but College Degree preferred. 

·         Undergraduate degree / college diploma in Business, Logistics or related discipline is an asset. C.I.T.T an asset.

·         Possess a minimum of 5-7 years experience in logistics / transportation operations.

·         Complete understanding of the North American logistics industry including highway and intermodal (domestic and cross border).

·         Good knowledge of warehouse and distribution principles.

·         Strong knowledge of North American geography.

·         Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. customs procedures an asset. 

 

Technical Skills

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word).

·         Intermediate computer skills required in Excel (i.e., formulas, graphs). 

·         Working knowledge of transportation management software (Freight Logix, TEDS, PC Miler, etc.).

D. COMMUNICATION

 

Following are the key contacts the position deals with on a regular and recurring basis inside and outside Wheels Clipper:

Inside:

·         Sales – Gather customer requirements for the request for proposal. 

·         Business Logistics and Marketing – Develop and provide carrier feedback.  

·         Operations and Accounts Payable – Provide supplier service agreements, contacts and pricing.  Train on carrier costs. 

 

Outside:

·         Suppliers – Develop service agreements and maintain relationship. 

·         Customers – Understand their current process and provide alternatives. 

 

 

D.    FREEDOM TO ACT

 

The incumbent is expected to maintain and grow relationships with suppliers.  The incumbent will assist in the establishment of relevant service agreements as per guidelines with the assistance of management.
